Since returning from holiday everyone's been asking, "What's with the big grin?"

Well if you all must know, I just lost my Virginity, and to be honest, I can't wait to go back for more. As we boarded the aircraft, one of the attentive crew suggested I slip into something more comfortable - like my seat - while she fixed me a drink. Looking around with glee I discovered it wasn't just a line; Premium Economy really did only have eyes for me, and twenty-seven others.

Not only were the seats wider than regular economy class - think Beyonce dancing next to Kylie - the chair configuration of two, three, two across the aircraft provided just the right amount of personal space. In addition, they've added extra padding, leg rests, and a generous recline. This baby was definitely built for comfort.

To put me in the mood before take off, I was offered a selection of drinks, including a glass of champagne. I hadn't intended on letting my guard down so early, but I'm talking real glasses of French champagne, not just plastic picnic goblets of Spumante. What did they take me for, a Business Class passenger?

Slurping noisily on my glass of bubbly, so as to be heard back in economy, I couldn't help but notice a well-stacked set of amenities bursting out of the seatback pocket in front. I have to say I'm a legroom man myself, however, these colourful kits were more than a handful. Each one was stuffed with socks, eyeshades, pens (who can ever find one when they need to fill out those customs forms?), notepads, tissues, and big enough to air your dirty laundry in on the way home.

Once in the skies, the crew really started to put on the moves. More drinks, impressive meals (by airline standards anyway, although I did tell them they were the best I'd ever had), refreshing hot towels, and tempting snack delights such as ice cream and chocolate bars.

Not long after dinner, the crew quietly dimmed the lights and lowered the shutters. However, this was no time to roll over and go to sleep. The flight was still young, and the fun just beginning. Both Premium Economy and Economy seats are equipped with large seatback video screens. Being sensitive to our individual needs, Virgin offer 50 movies to choose from. I could play, pause, go faster, take it slow, back a little, and, of course, stop if the film was just not doing it for me. Whenever I felt like a break between the action, a huge selection of TV shows, computer games, and audio channels awaited my every command.

After some initial fumbling around, I discovered that each seat has its own phone and email address. Of course, I could have communicated with the outside world, but why bother when the real enjoyment was dialling seat numbers to prank call and heavy breathe other passengers for free until I learnt that my seat number appeared at the receivers end. For those who would rather fly by the motto "all work and no play", Premium Economy also provides in-seat power supply for laptop computers.

While gadgets might be a boy's best friends, no airline gets far with me unless they can back it up with a great personality. That's where the experienced and friendly Virgin Atlantic crew really made my first time special, even announcing over the PA system that they would be delighted for me to fly with them again! They haven't called yet, but I'm sure they will.

Supporting Illegal Immigration Is NOT Christian - Society - Politics

There is a huge difference between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. LEGAL immigrants pay taxes, learn our language, and contribute to the United States as a whole.

I support legal immigration, and this article is not intended to speak against legal immigrants or legal immigration.

When Jesus was handed a coin with Ceasar's head on it, he said to "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, and render unto God what is God's."

Jesus was telling us that we had to respect the authority of government officials, as well as render unto the government what belongs to the government.

We are to pay our taxes and respect the laws of this country.

This is at the core of the debate over whether or not to allow illegal immigrants to stay and whether or not we should stop the flow of illegal immigrants over our border.

This should be a non issue since it is against the laws of the United States to cross the border illegally.

However, there are some people, and some Christians who may very well be well meaning, who have absolutely no idea how much damage they are causing by saying we should allow these people to stay.

First, there is the issue of the law.

If illegal immigrants will break the law to get into this country, what other laws will they break? What's worse, aren't we creating a double standard by saying that we will convict some people of certain crimes but not others?

Lawbreakers, regardless of the crime, must be punished. This is the only way that we can keep order in this country and preserve our sovereignty. By doing nothing, we are saying that it is ok to enter this country illegally, and ultimately, to break the laws of this country.

Not only are we setting a bad precedent legally, but we are teaching our children that it is ok to break the law if what you think you are doing is ok.

There is also the issue of security.

9/11 should have taught us that there are those who seek to harm us and will stop at nothing to destroy us. By not controlling our borders, it is only a matter of time before a crisis far more serious than 9/11 will happen.

All of the terrorists on 9/11 were illegal immigrants eventhough many immigrated here legally. When their visas expired, they should have been immediately escorted to the border. 9/11 would have never happened.

Second is the issue of disease and medical care.

Millions of Americans have no medical insurance. We aren't even taking care of our own people, yet, illegals get billions of dollars in free medical care here because they don't declare their income and draw welfare benefits, as well as Medicaid and Social Security Disability.

The amount of welfare benefits, as well as free education and healthcare these people receive far exceeds what the underground economy generates, which is about $9 billion.

The problem here is that this law was created to give equal rights and equal citizenship to former black slaves after the end of the Civil War. It was never intended to give citizenship to illegal immigrants.

Not even American citizens born on foreign soil are given this privilege. As the mother of a daughter born overseas, I had to prove my identity, the father's identity, and surrender my passport to the US consulate before the American government would even issue a birth certificate for my daughter. Both my exhusband and I are native born American citizens, and not even our daughter was automatically entitled to American citizenship.

Fifth is the issue of wages and jobs.

We've been told for years that illegal immigrants do menial jobs that no one wants. If this is true, then why are thousands of American construction workers out of work?

20 years ago, workers in the chicken plants here in Georgia were all American. Now they have been replaced by illegal immigrants.

Because employers don't have to pay unemployment insurance, worker's compensation, and don't observe laws that are written to protect American workers, wages in these industries, and others,l have been driven down. Thousands of Americans who might otherwise have had an opportunity at these jobs no longer have that opportunity.

According to the Pew Hispanic Center, illegal immigrants aren't risking their lives to come to the United States to find jobs. They are coming here to find better jobs, jobs in the same industries they worked in before but pay more money. This explodes the myth that they are risking their lives to come here to find work.

"Greed, not need".

In Matthew 15, Jesus criticized the Pharisees for tithing and not caring for their parents first. They weren't taking care of of their own families.

It's time for us to care for our own family, our own citizens. When we spend money on these illegal immigrants, we are neglecting our own people.

The bottom line is that illegal immigrants are not immigrants but invaders. They are not here to assimilate themselves into our society, learn our language, or become American citizens under our flag. They are here to rape our country of its resources and they are stealing billions of dollars each year in benefits that rightfully belong to American citizens and legal immigrants who pay taxes and observe the law. When we support illegal immigrants, we are aiding and abetting criminals, which is a crime.

As Christians, we are obligated to stand up for what is right. Call Congress and the Senate and tell them to vote no against any bills that would legalize illegal immigrants, as well as vote in favor of strong legislation that would secure our borders. You should also contact your state legislature about bills that would deny benefits to illegal immigrants. Insist on stiff penalties for employers who employ illegal immigrants.

Finally, call, or write, the White House. The only way to protect our way of life, our health, and our faith is to scream long enough and loud enough until these people hear us.

As we celebrate Memorial Day, let us not forget the hundreds of thousands of military service members who have given their lives to preserve our right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Their deaths should not be in vain.

I have recently finished the development of my agencies next five-year strategic plan. Our 2 main goals were to become substantially more efficient in the way that we achieve our corporate mission and vision, and to become financially self sustaining in the next five-years. The plan's success is going to require that the organization adopt a change in the way they normally operate and to redefine how they generate and develop funds. In other words, we have to challenge the status quo and defy gravity to achieve major success. That is why I have recently purchased, for my entire management team, a new book by Rebel Brown called "Defy Gravity." The book defies the status quo and provides practical advice to help corporate leaders avoid crash-and-burn strategies of yesterday. I highly recommend this book to all CEOs struggling with change; change in how to implement new and unique ways to take organizations to new heights. Rebel suggests that the way we've always done it may be limiting our success and I agree!

Status quo in the nonprofit world is fund development. Traditional fund development is simply the acquisition of resources toadvancethe mission ofan organization. It is the process by which an organization uses fundraising to build capacity and sustainability and it is part of the strategic marketing of a nonprofit organization. Fund development has two sides though; it isnot only concerned with raising money, but also in developing reliable sources of income that will sustain the organization through the realization of its long-term mission and vision. Successful fund development requires a strategic plan that relates funding to the purpose and programs of the organization. However, I contend that in these tough economic times nonprofit organizations must radically change its view and take the concept of fund development to a whole new level. They must, as Rebel Brown teaches in her book, Defy Gravity challenge the status quo!

It is my contention, in these tough economic times, that nonprofit organizations are becoming a burden on the business community. It seems that individual businesses are being hit over and over and over again by local nonprofit agencies for donations and memberships in mass numbers. Everyone from chambers of commerce to the humane society is asking for small business support. Now, these are all fantastic, mission driven organizations that are doing wonderful things to improve the quality of life in their respective communities, but unfortunately they rely heavily on donations from small business. As the economy weakens there is less and less of this money available by small business to support these groups and the competition for these dollars among all of the nonprofits in a community is at an all time high. There is simply not enough money to go around and I am afraid that you will see many nonprofits closing their doors over the next several years unless they make a fun damental change in the way they operate. I believe that nonprofits just can't continue to operate using the same old model.

The solution to this problem, which I have adopted and I am encouraging other nonprofit CEOs to also consider, is how we look at social entrepreneurialism. Social entrepreneurialism needs to be looked at in a whole new way. Social entrepreneurialism is typically the use of traditional entrepreneurial techniques to address a social issue or cause. I want to challenge the status quo, defy gravity, by looking at social entrepreneurialism as a way for nonprofit organizations to develop new funding sources through for-profit means. I want social entrepreneurialism to be defined as a nonprofit organization creating and operating a separate for-profit venture to support their nonprofit mission. In other words, any profit from the new venture would go to support the long-term mission and vision of the nonprofit. Therefore, the nonprofit would require less money in private contributions. For example, the humane society can market and sell a private-label brand of dog food in grocer y stores nationally. The YMCA could market and sell exercise videos in the United States. An economic development group could develop and sell commercial and residential real estate. By adopting a new way of operating, there would be the potential to generate millions of dollars in revenue for these groups that could go towards the long-term financial sustainability of the nonprofit.

The organization that I serve, serves the entire community through the creation of new jobs and investment in the region and the promotion of the area's assets to attract tourists that spend money with local merchants. For the most part, we are considered a member-based organization. The funds that we raise come primarily from among the members themselves and are used for the purpose of sustaining the organization's needs. For example, the money required for our programs and operations is collected in the form of fees paid to belong to the organization, or in the form of donations. There is a high degree of correlation though between the economy and membership. Therefore, if the economy is bad, we can expect membership to be lower. Simply, the organization requires funding to maintain its service to the community year after year. So, there is no way that we can rely completely on membership dollars and still survive long into the future.

In addition to membership dollars, we must also rely on a small base of government support for specific tourism and heritage preservation programs. And, the fact of the matter is, that often we must raise funds from a variety of sources just to maintain our budget. That is why I feel it is so important and crucial to create a fund development strategy that allows the organization to generate new revenue through for-profit means. You can see how, as an organization, it would make sense for us to develop and sell commercial real estate as a way to generate new revenue. The more money we can generate on our own, the less money we will require from the community. This is a new and radical way to look at nonprofit fund development, as well as, social entrepreneurialism, and is definitely not the status quo, but is, none the less, necessary if the nonprofit wants to survive in this new economy. This is a way for the nonprofit to take their destiny into their own hands; to become less of a burden on society, and to gain long-term sustainability in tough economic times.
